How You Can Support Your Child’s Learning

At Kindergarten

Talk to the teachers who work with your child. Make a time when you can talk to them about your child and discuss:

  • your child’s interests;
  • your aspirations for your child
  • what they like to do;
  • their strengths;
  • how to help them learn.

    At Home

    • Give them time
    • Listen to them and hear what they say.
    • Talk to them and ask them questions.
    • Listen to the radio and watch television with them.
    • Involve them in your activities.
    • Find out how they feel and what they think.
    • Play with your children.
    • Encourage them to try out new ideas, even if these don’t work out the first time.
    • Take an interest in their projects. Listen to their ideas.
    • Don’t underestimate the kinds of ideas and skills your children might learn.
    • Encourage them to look for many different solutions to problems.
    • Read to them and with them.
    • Offer your expertise to the kindergarten.

    Parents are welcome to take profile books home to look at and add material at their own leisure.
