What can we offer you?
Management And Administrative Support
Each kindergarten is part of Wellington Kindergartens, which employs managers and support staff to carry out some of the many tasks involved in running an Early Childhood Centre.
This work includes: employing teachers in kindergartens, identifying and employing relievers, paying salaries, accessing and managing Ministry of Education funding, developing guiding policies and procedures for kindergartens, providing practical support to kindergarten committees and teachers such as financial services and targeted funding to kindergartens in low socio-economic areas.
Networking And Collegial Support
Teachers in Wellington Kindergartens are given regular opportunities to meet and network with teachers in other kindergartens, such as combined staff meetings, teacher and head teacher support meetings, courses and workshops and social or informal gatherings and functions. This networking provides teachers with much practical support and motivation in their work with children and their families/whanau.
Ongoing Professional Development
As a teacher with Wellington Kindergartens you will be supported to continually develop and enhance your teaching practice. There is an established self-appraisal system which all teachers use annually to identify their own strengths and areas they would like to develop further. From that, Senior Teachers develop a comprehensive Professional Development programme, providing many courses and workshops which are available to you, free of charge, throughout the year. These courses are facilitated by a wide range of high calibre and experienced professionals from across the Early Childhood Sector.
Senior Teachers
Wellington Kindergartens has a team of six Senior Teachers. These teachers are qualified and experienced practitioners who are employed, primarily to give professional support and guidance to teachers in kindergartens. They visit kindergartens and provide practical, professional in-centre support to individuals and teams. They help facilitate processes of reflection and development for teachers and give practical and academic support to develop and enhance teaching practice. Senior Teachers also liaise between teachers and management of the Kindergarten Association when this is required and also represent teaching staff on various working groups and subcommittees in the Early Childhood Education sector (such as Wellington College of Education advisory groups). Senior Teachers will supervise teachers through registration processes, working alongside teachers, giving professional support and guidance.
Registration
All teachers with Wellington Kindergartens must either hold a certificate of full registration or be working towards registration. Teachers will be supported as they work through the two year registration period, with workshops and a professional, individualised advice and guidance programme.
