About the Kindergarten

Our kindergarten community extends from Hongoeka Maori settlement in the north-west through Karehana Bay, Plimmerton Village and east over the railway and highway to include Camborne, Mana and outlying areas of Grays Road.

Plimmerton is a popular residential area because of the lifestyle offered by the beach and sea and its proximity to Wellington (25km).  It is a community of mostly European descent.  There is approximately 10 percent Maori population and other ethnic groups are represented.

The kindergarten feeds into Plimmerton Primary School and St Theresa's Catholic Primary School.  Other early childhood education in the area is provided by Playcentre, a creche and other playgroups

ERO says:  “Teachers are caring, respectful, gentle and inclusive towards children who they know well.  They are particularly sensitive to their emotional needs and work hard to meet these.  Children demonstrate a strong sense of belonging to this kindergarten community and most display confidence in their interactions with others.  Relationships between the kindergarten, families and the local community are positive and well established.  Parents spoken with by ERO expressed confidence in teachers and appreciation of the family friendly culture.   The environment is planned to provide stimulation and motivation for children.  They are free to choose from and explore the wide range of learning materials available.”

From 19 July 2010, Plimmerton reorganised its session times to offering 6 hours every day.  Younger children attend Wednesday and Fridays and older children attend Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays.  There are 10 places offered for children to attend every day.
