About the Kindergarten

Cambridge Street Kindergarten is in Levin which is situated in the Horowhenua District.

Cambridge Street has a strong sense of identity with its community, as the first established kindergarten in Levin. We are situated adjacent to the Plunket Rooms and are in close proximity to the local shopping area. The kindergarten has a wide catchment area and contributes to all schools in the Horowhenua, serving both rural and urban families.

The grounds are expansive, with many trees and gardens. We have a well resourced outdoor area with quality equipment to support children's growth and development.

The teaching team aims to create a warm, friendly and inclusive environment, where learning is fun. We promote participation and help build relationships of mutual respect. Our curriculum is based on the principles of Te Whaariki (New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum). We promote a challenging and healthy environment where children's interests are nurtured.

E.R.O. said, "Children are settled and purposefully involved in the programme. As a result of good teaching they are self-directed, cooperative and competent in negotiating with their peers. Children confidently articulate ideas, converse with each other and adults and speak in their home language. They demonstrate good social skills, assist each other with tasks, share equipment, willingly wait for others to finish and take turns."

Our E.R.O. review celebrates the programme we offer of supporting children to play as good friends and the emphasis we place on active movement, as this is a strong component of our daily practice. We encourage children to become independent learners and our philosophy is about giving children skills for life.
